- First, wash and dry your hands. Then, choose where to place the sensor. If the user is 7 years or older, the best spot is the back of the upper arm. For children between 24 months and 6 years old, you can use either the back of the upper arm or the upper buttocks.
- Try to avoid areas with loose skin, bones, or muscles. Do not choose spots that often get bumped, near injection sites, waistbands, scars, tattoos, or areas with a lot of hair.
- Once you choose the spot, clean it with an alcohol wipe and let it dry for at least 10 seconds.
- Next, open the sensor applicator by unscrewing the cap. Be careful not to touch the inside. Press the applicator firmly against the skin and press the button to insert the sensor. Remove the applicator carefully after the sensor is in place.
- Rub around the patch firmly three times, then press gently on the sensor for 10 seconds. Now get the over patch. Remove the clear liners one at a time, being careful not to touch the sticky part. Use the colored tab to place the over patch around the sensor. You can use a mirror if that helps. Rub around the over patch to ensure it sticks well, then peel off the colored liner tab.
- Turn on the Dexcom G7 receiver. Press and hold the select button for three seconds. Follow the on-screen steps. Accept the terms and set the date and time.
- Read through the short tutorial that appears. It explains how to stay safe, what alerts you will receive, and how the system works.
- The receiver will ask if you have already inserted the sensor. Select yes to continue. Then, enter the 4-digit code that is printed on the sensor applicator. After that, the receiver will begin pairing with the sensor. Ensure your phone stays within 20 feet of the receiver during this process.
- Once pairing is done, select finish. The sensor will start warming up, which can take up to 30 minutes. After that, you will begin seeing real-time glucose readings and alerts on the receiver.
